The development of Raisio city centre resulted from a winning competition entry. The basic urban concept was to comple-
ment the existing main street with new buildings, and to form a new sequence of open urban spaces, which intersect it. The new central axis consists of spaces for business, culture and leisure, and it gathers the flows of pedestrians and cyclists.

The main street is a boulevard-like shopping street, which has commercial buildings on both sides. The series of urban squares and parks intersecting the street begins from the market square on the south side of the street. On the east side of this central urban space there are commercial spaces of different sizes bound together with a passage facing the park.

In the other parts of the master plan are residential buildings, which have been placed to complement the already existing layout. Parking facilities are located under the central square and beneath the commercial and residential buildings in an underground parking space.
