The If Building consists of a renovation of the office building originally designed in 1971 by Aarne Ervi and a new five-storey extension. The extension includes a new central lobby and a connecting passage between the new and the old building.

The old office building has been renovated with a respect for its original appearance without however compromising its chronological layering. The form of the new building, as well as its facade materials, take Ervi’s design into account; the new and existing sections play equal roles in the resulting overall entity.

Ceramic tiles dominate the facades of the new building, seen from the nearby motorway. The folding fa├žade functions as a recognizable motif for passers-by. There the ceramic material has been used in the form of vertical lamellas in between the windows.
