The general plan for the land use of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was developed to support the town-planning process. The objective was to develop an attractive area, which would bring surplus value to the business in the airport district, and give a positive first impression for foreign visitors.

The entrance road and the terminal area itself form the backbone of the urban structure. The importance of the road has been emphasized by giving it the character of a boulevard-like arterial route. Along the road stands a densely built group of offices, which acts as a gate to the airport.

Special landscape lighting underlines the sequential space experience formed by the citygate, park and the terminal.
