A Nordic invited competition was organized for the design of a site owned by ABB Strömberg Oy. The intention was to change part of the old industrial area into residential and business use. Master planning was supported by the proximity of a railway station and many parks and recreation areas.
In the competition phase a local commercial centre as well as residential buildings were designed in connection with the railway station. Later, however, it was decided that the industrial use of the site will continue to the extent that the design of a commercial centre was no longer possible.
Office and residential buildings’ heights range from five to seven storeys. The majority of the office buildings standing on the site are designed by Tommila Architects (see ABB Building Tellus, Nokia Strömberg plaza and Hiomotie 26 and SysOpen Tower).
